Our turned vases and candle holders are recycled from American Chestnut split rail fences. We also make toys, along with other great gifts such as salad hands and swings.
The American Chestnut Tree was hit by a blight in the early 1900’s. We have taken old chestnut split rail fences from the Mountains of North Carolina and recycled them into works of art, such as vases and lamps, by turning them on the wood lathe. Since 1978 we have recycled more than 50,000 rails.
Crafts have always played a major role in the heart of Appalachia, and Walnut Hill carries on this tradition in the products they produce.
